How did I become the Buffalo Food Slut?

It might have been how much I could eat. It also could have been that I was living in the city surrounded by amazing food. Or it could be that I used to be a personal chef when I was 23.

I moved into the city of Buffalo at 18 with an apartment on West Delavan. Going from suburban life to city life was a big change for my taste buds and life itself. Looking back at it, I think one of my first food experiences in the city was going to Blue Monk after my shift at Spot Coffee. Blue Monk was a staple, known for their duck poutine, burgers and mussels.

Having duck for the first time was like eating dark turkey meat on Thanksgiving Day. It was amazing.

Mussels? Ewww. But when they came out soaked in coconut milk, spices and buttery garlic bread? How could I say no?

I never knew this would launch my love for seafood and trying new things.

My cooking evolved from “grab whatever the F is in the fridge night” to making incredible meals from leftovers and canned goods. We were broke college kids but damn, we had some tasty meals! As we grew older, the cheap dinners turned into some classy stuff: seafood boil, surf and turf night, BBQ and so on.

Who knew my love for entertaining and cooking would lead to a job as a personal chef? Everything was cooked at my apartment and was simply picked up. I had the best spices and herbs one could dream of. I learned so much that year.

I started this food blog to show you how to cook or where to go for a healthy, mouthwatering, hearty meal that might give you a heart-attack. I want to show you that living in a food-driven city with huge portions and lots of fried foods doesn’t mean you have to live an unhealthy life style.
